French Fries - The enemy of a food budget?
One thing that I have noticed is that when working with a small budget, veering from the plan can wreak havoc on your budget. For example, hamburgers and french fries. Not something that we normally eat (potatoes kill me) but every 4-6 months I get a huge craving for them. I can't just go to McDonald's and place my order (even though most Mc Donald's have dedicated fryers, I have always, always, always been glutened when eating their fries) so I have to make my own. This time it cost a little over $30. $17.98 for the burgers (2 1/2 meals worth, though), $5 for 10 lbs of potatoes and $9.98 for the oil that because we make them so infrequently is used once and then tossed.
Since this is a once every six months or so thing, I don't stress about it and just make it work. If it happened more frequently, it could be a problem.
